A TYPICAL PAISA FAMILY - POST #3

Paisa is the demonym of the people who live in Los Andes, Colombia but most exactly for the people who born and lives in Antioquia.

A typical Paisa family is pretty large, they used to have 5 to 9 children per family and the couples used to marry too young, sometimes since when the girls turn between 15 to 19 years old.

Usually they live in a farmhouse which have a lot of animals like pigs, chicken and cows because most part of their economy comes from agriculture, milking and selling organic eggs.

The person who had the main authority in the house was the father, a typical Paisa is a kind of sexist mentality, but now they are more fair in the decisions.

The mom doesn't work because she have to do housework and take care of the children, help with their homework and cook for them.
But the father have to work everyday, most of the time the labour activities start too early and finish too late so the father come home really tired.

The typical family doesn't have time to watch tv or don't have any but both mother and father read the local newspaper which name is El Colombiano.

Now most of the things are pretty different, both of the parents have a work and drive a car,
they have more education opportunities than 50 years ago and the jobs are more industrial, milk industries are privatized and the agriculture too.

Paisas now have more entertainment activities like go to clubs, go to the cinemas, go to karaoke and meet with friends.
Womens usually watch gossip shows on the tv and Men usually watch documentary channels like Discovery and History.

Things have changed too much in these years don't you think?
